With activities, the work required for matters can be planned in advance and scheduled as individual tasks. You can create activities in the software either for yourself or for other users involved in the matter. Often, the responsible lawyer assigned to the matter creates and distributes the necessary activities to the entire matter team. In addition to basic activities, you can also create critical tasks with deadlines and possibly other types of activities if they have been defined for use.
You add a new activity with the New button in the Activities folder of the Workspace area, in the customer window, or in the matter window, you can also select a previous activity as a template for the new one with the Use as template button. The default type of activity created with the New button is a task, but you can select another type for the new activity from the dropdown arrow on the button. The type can no longer be changed in the activity window.
Complete the activity with:
- The subject describing the activity, the person responsible, the priority of the activity, and its status (default is Not started).
- Edit the start and due dates if necessary. In the views, activities are sorted by due date.
- In the Regarding field, you can select, for example, the customer, matter request, or matter that the activity concerns. If the activity is linked to another critical task-type activity, the link appears in the Critical task field.
- In the Description field, you can write a more detailed description of the subject if it is needed to transfer the activity to another user's responsibility.
- You can use the Alert Time field to create an alert list for activities. Setting the alert time creates a reminder for the activity, which you can open from the bottom left of the activity window. A reminder added to the activity also appears in the Reminders column of the activity list as a clock icon.
The Duration field records the time spent on the activity in hours only after the activity is completed. If a transaction is created from the activity, the link to it is saved in the Transaction field.
