We have released a new version of CSI MyDesk that introduces new functionality, including support for MSI package installations and, for CSI Lawyer customers, the ability to create new matter requests directly in the application. In addition, the release includes numerous fixes for software issues reported by customers.
What's new
General
- There are visual and usability improvements in the application, including updates to the layout, icons, and filters.
- Dashboard view elements (icons, tabs, toolbar, charts, and transaction cards) now scale better when the application is used in smaller windows.
- The appearance of input fields has been standardized. Empty and filled fields use a grey border. Labels of disabled fields are shown faded, and any value entered in a disabled field is displayed in muted grey.
- All lists use clear, consistent default sorting, and the app enables changing the sort option. The Calendar views sort transactions, tasks, critical tasks, and work time by date (cannot be changed). In Matters & Matter Requests, latest are the first, with options to sort by Subject, Matter Number, or Principal. Customers are sorted by Name (A–Z) and can also be sorted by customer number. Preliminary Invoices are sorted by entry date (oldest first). The Notes list can be sorted by Modified On, choosing either Oldest or Newest first the Created On field has been replaced with Modified On). Other lists (Conflict Checks, Billable Matters, Customer Identifications, Skills, Matter Phases) are sorted either by date or name.
- While loading the content, Dashboard, Matters list and screen, Customers list and screen, and Transactions list show skeleton placeholders shaped like the content. Once the data has loaded, the skeleton is replaced by the real content.
- If a session has expired, the user is now taken directly to the sign-in screen.
Matter/Matter request
- A new matter request can now be created directly from the Quick actions menu in the app's sidebar, in the same way as creating a new transaction, task, critical task, or work time entry. The feature is available when using CSI Lawyer with the matter request functionality enabled.
- The Matter list can be filtered by Invoiceable Type (Billable, Internal, or Non-Billable) and/or by Matter Type (configured for your organization).
- When a selected matter has warning-level restrictions (overdue invoices, incomplete customer identification, or service restriction), the warnings appear as an inline message instead of a pop-up. Information about the matter being internal, non-billable, or in a different language than the interface is shown below the warnings.
Transaction
- When entering a new transaction, the matter search opens right away, and recent and frequently used matters are listed below the search field.
- When a new transaction is created, user's skill (if any) is automatically fetched from the matter's team member, customer's team member, or from the user information.
- When using an existing transaction as a template, an info banner appears at the top of the screen explaining that a new transaction will be created. This helps avoid confusing the Use as template screen with the Edit screen and accidentally overwriting an existing entry.
- When a user attempts to switch organizations while a timer is running, a confirmation dialog is shown indicating the name of the target organization and informing that switching organizations will stop the timer and save the current entry as a draft. The dialog includes a summary of the entry: description, running status, start time, and a duration that updates in real time. The user can choose "Cancel", in which case the timer continues running, or "Stop and Switch", in which case the timer is stopped, the entry is saved as a draft, and the organization is switched.
Settings
- In Profile settings, users can define whether the app lists all matters and customers or favorites only. By default, the matter and customer lists show only favorites. Users can still switch to "all" on the list screen. The permanent change to the default value needs to be done in the Profile settings.
- In the Features list (in Profile), Dashboard and Timer are marked as "Always on" with a lock icon, since these features cannot be disabled.
- In the Profile screen, when no profile photo is set, user's initials (the first letter of the first and last names) are shown in a teal circle.
- The "Save Changes" button has been removed from the Appearance screen in Profile and changes to the appearance are saved automatically.
- The "About" screen (opened from Profile) is now a dedicated page with a back arrow in the top bar.
- If an update download fails or is interrupted, e.g. due to lost internet connection, the update dialog now offers a Retry option. Once a download finishes, a user can choose whether to install it immediately or the next time the app is opened.
Other
- CSI MyDesk can now be deployed using an MSI package, enabling silent installation and uninstallation through IT management tools such as Intune, GPO, and SCCM.
- If the app cannot get connection to the notification service, a user is shown a clear message informing that new notifications cannot be loaded.
- The notifications area now offers a Refresh button to reload notifications manually if needed.
- Access-restricted screens now display error messages identifying whether access is blocked for the application, the user, or another reason.
- Error and warning messages for editable fields appear directly next to the field instead of in a pop-up, and they can be shut from the x button.
Bugs fixed
General
- In the English version, calendars incorrectly started the week on Sunday.
- In date-grouped lists (such as Transactions, Timesheet, Tasks, and Critical tasks), visual separation between days was not clear enough.
- Language, currency, and country selectors were not listed in alphabetical order, making it difficult for a user to find the desired option.
- If a user had the filter selections open on some tab and then navigated to the next tab, the filter window stayed open.
- Text input fields flagged text as invalid whenever it was typed in a different language or character set.
- If a note attachment was deleted and then replaced with a new file of the same name, the new attachment was not shown in the attachment list.
- Saving a note could fail in the app if a user repeatedly added and deleted a note's attachment during the same editing session.
- The application made a large number of server requests, loaded substantial amounts of data, and repeatedly fetched information from the server, which slowed down performance. After optimization, lists are loaded in smaller batches, and data cached. As a result, the application is faster and more responsive, especially on slower network connections.
Matter/Matter request
- On a customer's card, the lists of Matters and Matter Requests lacked sorting options. The Matters list can now be sorted by Opening date, Subject, or Matter number. The Matter Requests list can be sorted by Created on or Subject.
- All countries were not listed when adding new customers or creating new matter requests.
- When a new matter request was created from a customer's detail screen, the Customer field in the matter request was not prefilled.
- Any sorting and filtering selections made in the Matters list (for example, Oldest first) were reset to the default view when the user opened a matter and then returned to the list. After the fix, the selected sorting and filtering settings remain in place.
- The language selector in matter requests showed incomplete or incorrect language names. After the fix, the language selector consistently displays entries in the format “Language (Region)” on every row (for example, “Arabic (Djibouti)”).
Task/Critical task
- The delete button was missing for regular tasks in the app. Now, regular tasks have the same delete option as critical tasks.
Transaction
- The timer counter was only updated when the user was on the timer screen. Also, timers were incorrectly visible to all users signed in on the same device.
- When adding transactions, the app showed only 10 skills and not the entire list of skills.
- When creating a transaction while a required customer identification had not been completed, the app only showed a generic error message.
- Although the parameter "Transaction alert check level" was set to "No alert" (default), a matter with overdue invoices could not be selected for a new transaction entry.
- When creating a transaction, the application did not recalculate the hour price and total price if the transaction was created using as a template a transaction where the hour price, total price, or both had been manually set.
- When a matter had overdue invoices, it was not possible to use its transaction as a template for new entries, even though the transaction restriction level in the settings was set to 'warning' or to 'no-alert'.
- In the Transaction details view, the Date field was not properly formatted.
- Selecting a billable transaction type before choosing an internal matter resulted in error.
- When adding a transaction to a non-billable matter via Quick action or from the Transactions list, the Billable toggle incorrectly remained enabled.
- If a user had a "Minimum billable (h) of transaction" setting configured, the Billable hours field on a new transaction still defaulted to 0.00 instead of that minimum.
- When transaction posting periods were in use, the user could not open new posting periods to create transactions.
- When a transaction was on a locked posting period and only the subject was editable, attempts to edit other fields showed an unclear generic error message.
- Editing a transaction's date after adding worked or billable hours reset those hours back to 0. After the fix, changing the date keeps the previously entered billable or worked hours intact.
- When creating a transaction, the transaction type subject was always shown in English regardless of the application's language.
- When a user was adding a transaction in the application and the posting period for the selected date was not open, the date shown in the prompt to open the posting period was displayed in English instead of the user interface language.
- In a foreign currency transaction, the hour price currency was shown as an abbreviation instead of a currency code in the field label.
- If a matter (billable or internal) had matter-specific transaction types defined, and a user cleared the matter-specific transaction type filter when adding a new transaction to the matter, the Billable/Internal filter was not auto-applied.
Invoicing
- The preliminary invoice status shown in the app did not match CSI software correctly (e.g. Open vs. In Review) and the status was not properly updated after a price adjustment.
Settings
- Updating the application to a new version reset the custom parameters to their default values.
- Although the user's account had access to only one organization, the user needed to select the organization.
Other
- If an organization's notification service was unreachable, the connectivity error was shown only once. After the fix, the error is being displayed until the issue is solved.
- When a timer was stopped and saved as a transaction to a matter where customer identification was still pending and the principal had a delivery restriction, the application could incorrectly show a notification indicating that a new transaction had been created while restriction-related warnings were opened in separate dialog windows.
