For workstation installations, two types of installation packages are created for CSI software: MSI packages and ClickOnce packages. Additionally, there are two types of ClickOnce packages: company-specific packages tailored for a particular company, and general packages published on websites for everyone to access. Only the latest package is available.
All workstations using the same database must use the same software version. If this causes problems, it is recommended to either use a company-specific package or save the MSI package for the next planned version update.
MSI Packages
MSI (Microsoft Installer) packages are installation packages designed for Windows, used for installing, updating, and removing software. They offer extensive control over the installation process and support complex installation scenarios. MSI packages enable:
- Detailed control over installation steps and parameters
- Enterprise-level features such as support for Group Policy and Intune
- The ability to perform custom installations and execute scripts
ClickOnce Packages
ClickOnce is a Microsoft technology designed to simplify the installation and updating of Windows applications directly from the web. It allows users to easily download and install applications with a single click. ClickOnce packages offer:
- Quick and easy installation directly from a website or network drive
- Users do not need to be administrators to perform the installation
- Automatic updates that occur in the background
- Security features such as application signing and isolated execution mode
